Summary
Ukeire takes place in Little Creek, Kentucky in the fall of 2013. The story is about 16-year-old Brennan Akitsuki-O'Dorchay, who is forced to move from West Coast, liberal California to a small town in the middle of deeply conservative Kentucky. What makes the move even worse for him, is the fact his a young gay teenager, something that his new location wasn't ready to accept yet. He makes the mistake on his first day of school to show off his true colors and wear an outfit that, in a way, showed off his sexuality. The result was that he was cornered in the hallway and was beat up by his classmates. He only relief to the ridicule was his teacher, Mr. Wilson, and the student who he first met, Aidan.
Mr. Wilson assigns the class a Shakespeare project and he puts Aidan and Brennan in a group together. During the time they were working on the project Brennan began having more and more feelings toward Aidan. Aidan ended up being the first person he came out to since his move. Luckily, Aidan supported him and didn't judge him for who he was. Then came a point when Brennan had to tell someone about his feelings toward Aidan and he went to Mr. Wilson, who listened objectively.
Things began going sour when Brennan decided to finally come out to his father. He father started preaching to him and then finally ended up beating the teen to a pulp. Brennan had had enough with life and went into the woods to commit suicide. Did Brennan actually go through with suicide? Did Brady finally learn about acceptance? Will Aidan ever learn about Brennan's feelings towards him?
